Adding A Contents Page And Publishing Your Ebook

Hi Guys,

Today we are going to look at adding a contents page to your new e-book.

Sample Contents Page from a Report

Open your ebook in Open Office.

You should be familiar with how to do this by now.

If not, then go back and look at the previous blogs in this series.

Go to the second page of your ebook.

That is the blank one you set up at the start of this course.

This is where we will put our table of contents.

Remember a few days ago when we added the headings titles to our chapters?

That was for the purpose of this page.

On your blank page 2 select any are with your cursor where you want to add the table of contents.

Go to insert in the menu at the top of your screen.

Click on this and then scroll down to where it says indexes and tables.

Then scroll across to indexes and tables.

You will then be presented with a new window.

There are two things you need to do in this window.

Write the title that you want to call your contents.

Next make sure that the box that says "protected against manual changes" is NOT ticked.

This will enable us to edit the font and the font size of our table.

Next click O.K. at the bottom of the window.

When you click O.K. your table will appear on the second page of your ebook.

If your font or font size do not look right then you can edit either or both oif these.

You do this by click and dragging your mouse over the whole table whilst holding down the left mouse button.

Then go up to the menu bar at the top of the page and select the text and size that you want.

If there are blank spaces above your contents table then simply place your cursor in the area just before your table and click the delete button to get rid of the blank spaces.

So now is time to do some final checks.

Look at your ebook in Open Office.

You need to check that the format, spelling and structure are all correct.

Make sure that all the images and resources have been added to your ebook.

Make sure that you have no unwanted blank spaces and your ebook looks as you want it.

All that needs to be done now is turn it into a .pdf file.

To do this go to the menu at the top of your document.

You will see a button called pdf.

Left click on this button and a new window will open.

Give your ebook at title and save in the final document of your project folder.

It has now saved your ebook as a pdf.

Double click on the finals document of your project folder  you will see the pdf of your ebook.

Double click on the pdf and check out your ebook.

Having you ebook in this format will mean that anyone with adobe on their computer will be able to read your ebook.

All you have to do is get it online with your  publishing software.

I will show you how to publish your ebook next time if you are unsure on how to do this.

Until next time have a profitable day.
