How To Format The Text For Your New Ebook

Hi Guys,

Nice to have you back.

Yesterday we looked at getting text into your ebook.

Today we are going to look at formatting the text to make your ebook look more professional and appealing.

To start with I would recommend you zoom in to make sure you can see just the page you are working on.

This enable you to concentrate on just that page.

First open your draft copy in the document folder of Open Office.

That is where you were told to save it yesterday.

The first thing that needs to be done know is to set the font.

The next thing to do is select all the text.

This is done by going to the edit button at the top of Open Office.

When you click on edit, a drop down menu will appear.

From this drop down menu click the "select all" option.

This will highlight all the text.

Next we have to choose the font we want to use for our document.

To do this go to the font menu.

This is located in the menu bar next to bold, italic and underline buttons.

Click on the arrow at the right hand side of this box and a drop down menu will appear with all the fonts available.

I would recommend using one of the key fonts such as times new roman, georgia or calibri or tahoma.

Having selected your font the whole document will change to this .

Now that all the font is still selected it is a good opportunity to change the size of the font.

To change the font size, click on the arrow next to the box which has a number in it which is next to the font menu.

Choose a font size between 10 and 18.

The best size for an ebook is between 12 and 14.

The next thing that needs to be done is to set the text aligment.

You have four choices for this.

Left aligned, right aligned, centered and justified.

These button are situated to the right of bold, italic and underline buttons in the menu at the top of the page.

It is recommended to use justified alignment which mean that all the lines are the same length.

Doing this gives your ebook a more professional appearance

The last thing in today's blog is to add some page numbers to your ebook.

To do this you need to open the footer menu.

Go to the menu bar at the top of the screen and click the insert menu.

A drop down menu will appear and one of the option is called footer.

Scroll across to default in the footer options.

This will insert a box at the bottom of every page.

This is where you insert the page number

The page numbers can be inserted automatically with open office.

To do this go back up to the insert menu and click on the fields option in the drop down menu.

A new menu will appear next to the drop down menu.

Go across to the page number option.

Clicking on this will putt the page number on every page.

The final thing you need to do is decide if you want the number to be on the left, right or center at the bottom of the page.

You do this by highlighting the number at the bottom of the page and then click the left, right or center option in the justify menu.

Your new ebook is finally coming together.

A bit of a long blog today but we covered a lot of information.

Next time we will look at correcting the format of the font caused by the changes we have made today.

Until tomorrow,

Have a profitable day.
